Nicaragua 2008 – Medical Mission Trip

June 20-27, 2008

Our mission is to inspire, nurture and serve to the glory of God "

The Nicaragua Team is planning our fourth medical mission trip to Bluefields, Nicaragua from June 20-27.  The medical part of the trip is being organized, and now we need to enlist non-medical helpers to greet our “clients”, keep records, set up clinic sites, and demonstrate caring and compassion.

We will be following in the footsteps of dozens of faithful ambassadors from FPC who have participated in these missions since 1991, when we began a nuturing partnership with the congregation of Central Moravian Church in Bluefields.

A key element of this partnership has been goodwill visits between our congregations.  Members of FPC have been warmly welcomed to Bluefields, and in turn, we have hosted student and adult visitors (giving an exciting opportunity for the congregation to get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ from Nicaragua).

Our Faith in Action campaign funded a feeding program / health clinic for some of the poorest families in Bluefields who would feed themselves from the town dump. Today, this Comedor provides approximately 80 children with a hot meal each day.  Because of this, and with health care and medication, family health education, and Sunday School, the children of this barrio are healthy and no longer malnourished.  Our investment has led others to fund a day-care center for children of working mothers, and a pharmacy where families can get medications almost at cost.

Do you have a week to give in service to others?  Can you extend your hands in friendship and be a witness to your faith?  If so,please contact Mert Fowlkes (Fmfowlkes@aol.com) or Cynthia Shelhorse (clshelhorse@henrico.k12.va.us) for more information.
