FPC Newsletter April 2008 Nicaragua 2008 – Medical Mission Trip June 20-27, 2008 Join us in Bluefields! If you can smile and be welcoming – we need you. If you can write a list of names – we need you. If you have a week to be a witness to your faith – perhaps you need us!
As part of our 2002 trip, Laura Finch recalled: “I knew there would be poverty and illness. I knew there would be Creoles, Mastizos, Miskitos and Ramas and that language and culture might be a barrier between us. I knew I would see a lot of patients and I expected them to be lined up waiting. I thought we would be able to make a go of some sort of clinic. I hoped for a reawakening of spirituality and a lifting of my spirit. I knew it would be hot. I was a bit wary of traveling with a group of people I really didn't know from a bar of soap. I wasn't prepared that the lifting of my spirit would come from those 14 people I didn't know and not from the medical work. I never thought the clinics would be run seamlessly by 15 people who had never worked together before and by 10 who had never even worked in health care. I was impressed that so many Bluefield's Moravians were so committed to their homeland that they would leave a land of wealth to return to their roots.
