How do I change my address and/or membership information?
Call the WEF at 1.800.666.0206 or fax the "Address Change" form that appears in each Conduit. VWEA downloads the updated membership database monthly, but the flow is one-way, we do not upload new information back to WEF.

Bulk rate--when and how?
Use bulk rate when your mailing exceeds 300 pieces. Your mailing may be delayed up to three weeks--but the savings are worth it. Just build the extra time into your plan. The flyer must show our bulk rate indicia and associated return address. Teresa Moore will help coordinate that with you. Call her at  (804) 330-2917 or e-mail her at 4tmoore@comcast.net.

How can I put something on the web site?
The web site is a great way to get news out to committee members or potential committee members. Use it! Post industry events on the calendar and reach our Corporate Sponsors' web sites via hot-links. E-mail material to Jim Jones at Calypso Technologies, Inc. fafnir@att.net
Can I use my boss' membership number to register as a "member"?
Memberships in WEF/VWEA are individual. Even Corporate Memberships designate individual representatives. You are eligible for member discounts only if you are a dues-paying member with your own, unique membership number. For membership information contact Elaine Claiborne by phone at 757.873.4703 or e-mail at claiborne@jrreed.com)

Isn't profit bad since we're "non-profit"?
VWEA is classified as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, but we are a business. The budget must balance to keep us going strong. Some events must make money to pay for events that are designated to lose money as part of our educational mission. "Not-for-profit" means that profit is not taken out of the association to benefit share-holders or individuals.

Can I just call in or e-mail my registration?
No, since you must include payment in the form of a credit card (signature required) or check, you have to fax or mail your registration.

Why don't we do more with AWWA?
We and the Virginia Section, American Water Works Association share many common goals and members, and for this reason, last year, entered into a formal agreement to seek commonalities. Since then, many joint committees and programs have been formed, and the Joint Task Force meets regularly to continue the effort. While there will always be differences in the organizations' missions and structures that necessitate the existence of both organizations, it is exciting to see the natural fit between us.

How can I become involved without excessive travel?
This speaks volumes of the conflicting desires to serve, work, have a family, etc., and is the "Number 1" issue of associations, if not of 1999! Committee Chairs feel the same pressures and have changed the way they get work done. Nowadays, meetings are conducted by conference call, e-mail, or not at all. All contributions of energy are appreciated even if you never attend a meeting, so long as you communicate and stay involved. The return to you is the same: ten-fold.  Back to Top
How are officers and committee chairs selected?
Officers are nominated by a committee chaired by the most recent Past President. The slate of nominees is put before the membership at the Annual Meeting and voted into record at the General Business Meeting. The incoming President appoints Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs. Back to Top
What is the official relationship between WEF, VWEA and VWEA committees?
The Water Environment Federation is an international organization composed of independent "member associations," of which VWEA is one. VWEA is not a chapter or a section, but a separate, incorporated business entity. VWEA committees are subgroups of the Association, and do not have any separate legal identity. What you do with and for your committee you do in the name of the VWEA...and we thank you. Back to Top
