My husband George and I lived in Ottawa, Canada, for three years after we married in August, l965. We left there during the summer of l968 and headed to Clinton, SC, for a "temporary placement" where George became a professor at Presbyterian College. We have been there ever since. George and I have one son, Scott. After being in the Charter Class of South Carolina's Governor's School for Science and Math, Scott went on to Princeton University. After graduation from college he enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, where he met and married Laura Cunningham in 1998. They are now located in the DC area where both are Presbyterian ministers. It has been great to have our son understand the strong attraction which Virginia has always had for me. I returned to graduate school in my "geriatric years" and got a master's degree in library science (after working in the field for 20+ years). Unfortunately, my energy did not match my spirit, and when we finally got Scott through college, I retired. Retirement can equal a full-time job sometimes, but I'm enjoying the flexibility this stage in life provides. We are looking forward to the reunion this fall so much and appreciate all the planning and work "The Richmond Team" has done to make an endeavor of this magnitude happen. Kudos to all of you!!

Currently I live and work in the Los Angeles area where I am an art writer, specializing in emerging artists. When I am not attending openings and going to museums, I am an associate professor of art history at Otis College of Art and Design, the oldest art school in Los Angeles. I teach contemporary art and theory, film studies and the history of photography and multiculturalism in the arts. This coming semester I am teaching a course called the Tale of Two Cities, comparing art in LA with art in NY. I have found the culture of the east coast very different from that of the west coast and enjoy living in a place where entertainment for the entire world is produced. One of the pleasures of working in an art school is seeing ideas and art and fashion years before the public does and to have the opportunity to perhaps effect what is produced. I try to make my students socially conscious of their responsibilities. I feel that they should be aware that, in a world of images, artists have unprecedented importance, impacting upon many lives. My work is located in Santa Monica and I live in Laguna Beach. This means that I travel back and forth between two of the most beautiful beaches in the nation and live my life in the sun as a blonde single girl driving down the freeways listening to electronic music. I have a Ph.D. but never call myself "doctor" unless I want something.

    Paul Kessler

I graduated from UR in 1965 in accounting. Worked for a CPA firm for 7 years, then i started my own practice. I do the bookkeeping for over 80 businesses monthly and I prepare over 1,600 tax returns per year. (just a regular H & R BLOCK). All of my clients love me with the exceptional few that have gone to jail for tax fraud. (just kidding). I am presently working on my second divorce. There will probably not be a third Mrs. Kessler, but never say never. I had open heart surgery on December 6, 1996. Quadruple bypass and a heart valve replaced. Everything went fine. I only stayed in the hospital 4 days. I have a son "Matt" 17 years old. He is going to be a junior at James River High. He is my pal. He is on the soccer team and also in the male chorus. He surprised me with his singing a solo. I think it was great. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in October.

My wife, Sherry and I live in Philadelphia, PA.,and our only child, a daughter, Hayes, will be a sophomore at Harvard in the Fall. I am involved in the field of conflict management, arbitration and mediation, and my corporate offices are in Manhatten. Thus, I spend a lot of time on Amtrak. A year ago August, I was speaking at a legal conference in Paris, and by pure chance I was introduced by another American attorney who lives in Portland, Oregan. We sat together over lunch and quickly realized that we were both members of the Class of 61' at Tee Jay...it was Carol Emory. Once we figured that out we had a ton of laughs. My avocational interests are birding and wines (I used to be a bee keeper but that's a little difficult living in center city Philadelphia). As time goes by, I miss not living in Virginia.

    Christine Young

I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and English from Longwood College in 1965, library science certification from VCU in 1974, and a M.Ed. from the University of Richmond in 1984, where I was a Graduate Assistant. I am a member of Theta,Theta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education. In addition to my post-graduate work, I worked professionally over a 25-year period until 1990 as an elementary schoolteacher in the Chesterfield County School System, as librarian for the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, and as an administrative assistant. After my professional work, I served as a volunteer over an eight-year period until 1999 with the Richmond Symphony, St. Mary's Hospital, the Virginia Historical Society, Reveille Church Library Committee, the Virginia Opera, and the University or Richmond Development Office. Since 1968, I have been a member of Reveille United Methodist Church and joined the Mary Lou White Circle, UMW, there in December 1998. After becoming a resident of The Tuckahoe in September 1999, I began serving as Editor of the "Tuckahoe Times" newsletter in August, 2000. In December 2000, following in the footsteps of my mother, Cora Lee Young, I became a member in the Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). Presently I am completing the application process for membership in the Bermuda Hundred Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). I've had a wonderful opportunity to travel in twelve countries of Western Europe, many states in the north, south, east and west USA, and Hawaii.

The Rev. Martha Susan Stone Courie

I have always fantasized of going back to my high school reunion rich and famous and drop-dead gorgeous, but alas that was not to be. I am, however, richly blessed. I graduated from Meredith College in Releigh, N.C. and went straight to Union Theological Seminary in Richmond where I earned at M.Div. degree. My first pastorate was in Athens, Georgia where I was the first ordained Presbyterian woman in the state of Georgia. I have since served several pastorates, married Phil Courie, a civil engineer, and had two beautiful daughters. My oldest daughter, Laylage, is a playwright/actor in New York City working a day job as the Assistant to the Dean of Research at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Laylage will be starring in a one woman show off Broadway entitled "Vita" in November. One of her own plays was performed in Brooklyn last May. My youngest daughter, Marian, is a graphic artist for Dooney & Bourke in Norwalk, Connecticut. She free-lances as a web designer. She designed Laylage's web-site: www.luminouswork.org Phil has retired and I am semi-retired. I am the Pastoral Associate at the Friendship Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia, and trying to write a book....maybe I will eventually be famous when Oprah discovers me????!!! but forget the "drop-dead gorgeous".

    Allan S. Chappell

While at VPI, I was a Cooperative Engineering student at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. This experience set me on my life's journey. The first eight years after graduation were spent at the Kennedy Space Center, where I was a member of the Saturn IB and V launch teams. I was in the Firing Room for the Apollo 11 launch. I participated in all Apollo (except the Apollo-Soyuz) and Skylab missions. While at KSC, I married; our two children, Christy and Jamie, were born in the area. Sometime during this period, I received a Masters. My time in Florida was active and challenging. In many ways, we were on the periphery of American life of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s: instead of war and civil strive, we simply had a focused goal of placing Americans on the moon. Next came the Ballistic Missile Defense program. This took us first to Southern California and then to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. In ‘84, we hit a bullet with a bullet, portending the current interest in BMD. A miniscule one-square-mile hunk of coral was home for eight years; my children grew up there. As earlier, we were completely separated from mainstream American life. Life on a secret Army base, 2,000 miles from anywhere, is anything but the norm. We loved it. After Kwajalein, it was Southern New Jersey and Massachusetts to work on a variety of radar programs. Since ‘88 I’ve been working for MITRE, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center. Most of this time has been devoted to Air Traffic Control work. Following work for the Federal Aviation Agency, I transferred to the international community. Over the last five years, I have lived and worked in Egypt, Japan and Belgium. Currently, I telecommute. MITRE’s office is at the FAA Technical Center near Atlantic City, but half of my year is spent in Central Florida and the other half in Belgium. Yet again, I’m out of step with the rest of America; and yet again, I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

    Eleanor Beck Gosse

Graduation from TJ seems like a lifetime away but my education there sparked a beginning interest in economics and finance. These interests lead me to earn degrees from the University of Richmond in Marketing and Finance and an MBA from Wharton Graduate at the University of Pennsylvania. Then I headed to Wall Street and New York City and the fun really began. Initially, I worked for Merrill Lynch in the years when it was becoming the financial supermarket it is today and starting the ML is Bullish on America campaign. I was lucky enough to be present at the meeting when that wonderful tag line was born. After a series of jobs in the consumer products and consulting industries, I formed by own consulting firm. EBG Marketing Associates, Inc. specializes in providing marketing strategy and consumer research for companies across the country. You may have shopped in some of the regional shopping malls we have helped to create or visited some of attractions we worked on at Epcot in Orlando. When I moved to New York 34 years ago I married Roy Gosse, who had been in my class at Wharton. With his enthusiastic support and assistance at home, all of the long hours of work and travel were possible. Since the ‘Big City’ is a hard way to live for people who love sports and the out of doors, we made our home in a small New England town in the early 1970’s. Easton, CT has a rural character and only 2,500 households. Although we have just lost our last working farm, we have managed to preserve much of the acreage as conservation land, which will never be developed. While we live in a forest, we are only 15 minutes from the beach and 75 minutes from New York’s fabulous dining, the ballet and other attractions. In our graying years we have remained fit enough to ski and play tennis and even take up golf. I still visit Richmond on a regular basis as my entire family still lives there.
